Valentine Pillow Box Tutorial

Valentines Day is just around the corner. My daughters and I made pillow boxes last year for their classmates. They were the perfect size for treats and turned out so cute! You can see them here. They were a big hit on the blog, so I decided to make a tutorial. If you decide to make them please send me some pics or a link – I would love to see them!

Supplies:

  • Valentine themed Scrapbook paper
  • About 3 shades of cardstock in coordinating colors
  • Silhouette machine
  • A ribbon hole punch – or a plain hole punch
  • Coordinating ribbon
  • Double sided tape
  • Scissors

*These directions are intended for use with a Silhouette machine, but if you don’t have a Silhouette, you could use punches for the hearts and I found some great sites that have free pillow box templates here – About.com, Cut & Create, Homemade Gifts Made Easy

Start with your favorite Valentines scrapbook paper & about 3 shades cardstock in coordinating colors.

If needed, cut the paper to 8.5 x 11 to fit through your Silhouette.

You will need the following Silhouette files for this project – a pillow box, a small scrolled heart shape or something similar (this will have to be inserted onto the pillow box in the Silhouette file), a scalloped heart & a regular heart shape to fit on top of the scalloped heart.

Load your scrapbook paper into your Silhouette and cut out the pillow box – I was able to fit two onto one sheet.

Load your plain cardstock paper and cut out the scalloped hearts.

For the regular shaped heart you will first need to type “to” and “from” in your favorite font and print them out, then load into your Silhouette and cut.

After everything is cut out, use your hole punch (I used a ribbon punch) and punch out the holes about a 1/2 inch from the top of the dotted line, make sure it’s on the same side that has the decorative scalloped heart.

Place the “to” & “from” heart on top of the scalloped heart and use the hole punch to punch holes onto these and assemble on top of the pillow box – at this point you can have your child write who it’s “to” and “from” or you could wait until the box is complete for this step.

Put the ribbon through all of the holes and tie into a bow.

Place the double sided tape on the inside of the pillow box edge – on the same side that has the decorative scalloped heart and adhere it.

Fold in the bottom sides of the box (your child can add a stickers to each end if desired), put some treats inside, fold in the top, and you are done!
